What is The Football Know It All?

Welcome to my first post. To whomever is reading this, I am a graduate student who has a) a decent amount of statistical knowledge, b) a tremendous (fanatical) passion for pro football, and c) the curiosity to delve into the numbers and figures to get beneath the surface and look at NFL games in a whole new way.

Now, statistical analysis in football is nothing new, and even blogging about football stats is certainly not breaking new ground. There are also some fantastic sites out there that break down a plethora of football statistics that you may never have even thought of before, and these sites are a great asset to info-hungry fans, myself included.

What I am setting out to do here is to create a blog in which with each new blog, I will discuss a topic in pro football and look at it in a new way. I will use a number of stats and also analyze them, explaining their implications in the real-world NFL. For instance, I will conduct statistical analyses to determine questions like: Does strength of schedule really have an impact on a team's record? What offensive stats are most important to a team scoring points? What are the most under appreciated positions on the field? Who are truly the best players at each position? what stats should you look out for when predicting a team's wins and losses?

Hopefully, the posts will be entertaining and fun to read for any football fan who wants to take a new look at the game. It's still the offseason, but with a month to go before kickoff, this is the perfect time to start digging to get a closer look at the upcoming season. Till next time...
